Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Welcome and Sound Bowl Meditation
Arrive at Chengdu's Xiangxin Center by 3:00 PM for a welcome session with your fellow travelers and guide. In the evening, share Chengdu's well-known hotpot at a local restaurant, then close the day with a sound bowl meditation session designed to ease you into the pace of the journey ahead.

Day 2: Wenshu Monastery and Wide and Narrow Alley

Begin at Wenshu Monastery, over a thousand years old and home to relics associated with Master Xuanzang. Take part in a traditional blessing ritual here before continuing to Wide and Narrow Alley, where Qing Dynasty courtyards sit beside teahouses and small shops. Sip lidded tea (盖碗茶) while watching a Sichuan opera face-changing performance, then continue in the afternoon to Qingcheng Mountain, the birthplace of Taoism.

Day 3: Taoist Trails and Guided Meditation
Prepare for a day filled with natural beauty and profound spiritual discovery. Qingcheng Mountain is not just a scenic gem but also one of China’s most sacred Taoist sites. As you ascend the trails, you’ll feel the stresses of the modern world melt away, replaced by the harmony of chirping birds, rustling leaves, and flowing streams.
Here, you can learn about Taoist principles of balance, simplicity, and harmony with nature. It’s a chance to reflect and gain spiritual insights from one of the world’s oldest philosophies.

Mindful Meditation Among the Clouds
At midday, you’ll enjoy a light picnic surrounded by nature before participating in a guided meditation session led by the group’s spiritual master. This unique opportunity allows you to align your mind, body, and spirit with the mountain’s tranquil energy. Many travelers describe this moment as the emotional highlight of their journey, offering a sense of grounding and connection that’s hard to find elsewhere.
Day 4: Songgang Watchtowers and Guanyin Temple
Today, the journey transitions into the breathtaking Tibetan highlands, a region steeped in history, culture, and stunning natural beauty. Your first stop is the Songgang Watchtowers, a group of ancient defensive structures that date back over 200 years. The watchtowers’ resemblance to a "Chinese Pisa Tower" offers plenty of opportunities for creative photos that combine history with fun!
Continue to Guanyin Temple, often called the "Little Potala Palace" due to its striking resemblance to the famous landmark in Lhasa.

Day 5: Journey to Sertar (Seda)
Today, you’ll venture deeper into the highlands, traveling through pristine landscapes that showcase the vast beauty of the Tibetan Plateau. Rolling grasslands, snow-capped peaks, and grazing yaks fill the horizon, creating a postcard-perfect scene around every turn.

Arriving in Seda, or Sertar, you’ll feel the unique energy of this sacred land. Known as the "Golden Land" in Tibetan, Seda is a spiritual hub for Buddhism and Tibetan culture.
In the afternoon, learn the art of mantra recitation, a fundamental part of Tibetan Buddhist practice, and explore the structure of Tibetan rituals in a way that’s easy to understand. You’ll also deepen your understanding of Buddhist rituals as our guide shares insights into the essence of Buddhist practice. This is an opportunity to absorb the essence of Tibetan life and interact with the warm, hospitable locals.
Day 6: Museum, Monastery and Grasslands

Begin your exploration of Sertar with a visit to the Sertar Cultural Museum, an immersive experience that brings Tibetan history and artistry to life. Wander through exhibits featuring intricate Thangka paintings, traditional Tibetan textiles, and sculptures of revered Buddhist figures. This is a perfect introduction to the region’s rich heritage, offering foreign visitors a deeper understanding of Tibetan culture.
After lunch, visit Dongga Monastery, perched on a hill overlooking the surrounding valley. Known for its serene atmosphere and intricate carvings, the monastery is home to hundreds of monks and nuns who devote their lives to spiritual practice.
In the afternoon, venture to the Sertar Grasslands, a sprawling expanse of emerald-green meadows dotted with grazing yaks and colorful prayer flags. Relax with a picnic or join in a traditional Tibetan dance led by locals, a joyful way to connect with their culture.
At Sertar, enjoy a traditional Tibetan meal featuring yak meat, butter tea, tsampa (roasted barley flour), and yak yogurt—foods uniquely flavored by the high-altitude environment. Later, recite mantras and learn how to pay respects to Tibetan monks and high lamas, a truly transformative experience.

Day 7: Larung Gar Buddhist Academy and Yawang Mountain
Begin your day with a visit to the iconic Larung Gar Five Sciences Buddhist Academy, located in the Sertar Valley. Imagine a sea of red wooden houses cascading down the mountainside, home to thousands of monks and nuns practicing Tibetan Buddhism. This is the largest Buddhist academy in the world, and its vibrant community embodies a living tradition of faith and scholarship.

Start at the Observation Deck, where you’ll take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the sprawling academy. It’s a perfect spot for photos and a moment of quiet reflection. Next, head to the Mandala Palace, a sacred space where you’ll learn about the philosophy of the "Five Sciences" and the unique educational system of the academy. Join the faithful as they circle the Giant Prayer Wheels or offer your own prayers at the Golden Stupa, the spiritual heart of Larung Gar.
After a vegetarian lunch prepared by the monks, journey to Yawang Mountain, where we will participate in a prayer ceremony and ask for guidance from a high lama regarding our personal journeys, including topics such as career, relationships, and personal growth.

Day 8: Hot Springs, White Pagoda Park and Vajra Tower

Travel to Ganzi County, beginning with the mineral-rich Sulfur Hot Springs, a natural stop for rest after several days at altitude. In the afternoon, walk through White Pagoda Park, home to the region's largest stupa, then climb to the panoramic viewing platform for views across the Ganzi Valley. In the evening, visit the Vajra Tower before joining local high lamas for an introduction to Tantric Buddhist teachings, including basic instruction in visualization and mantra chanting.
Day 9: Gesar King's Palace: Myth, Craft and Celebration
Spend your final full day exploring Gesar King’s Palace, an extraordinary tribute to the legendary Tibetan king and warrior. Built on the site of the epic "Battle of Horing," this sprawling complex is a blend of myth, history, and art.
Wander through the Royal Palace, where murals and sculptures depict Gesar’s heroic deeds. Explore the Epic Theater, where live performances bring Tibetan mythology to life with traditional music, dance, and storytelling. For those who love interactive experiences, participate in archery and horseback riding, activities that pay homage to Gesar’s warrior spirit.
You’ll also have the unique opportunity to engage in a Thangka painting workshop, where you’ll learn how to create this sacred form of Tibetan art. Afterward, dress in traditional Tibetan clothing and take memorable photos as you immerse yourself in the culture. In the afternoon, visit a local high lama to receive a personalized blessing and ask any life questions you may have—whether they relate to career, relationships, or personal growth. This is a rare opportunity for spiritual guidance.
