HOW THIS TRIP FEELS

Revitalised · Transformed

Feel transformed as morning hikes, temple chanting and conversations with Buddhist practitioners add depth to each day. Between them, tea, sound bowls and time in the mountain air bring the pace back to something steadier.

Ng Wee Kiang (Malaysia)

Just returned from an unforgettable 5-day private tour to Wutai Mountain with China Good Tour, and my heart is full. From the moment we arrived until the very last day, everything was thoughtfully arranged – transport, accommodation, food, and especially our local guide who shared such deep knowledge and stories of the sacred temples and the spiritual essence of the mountain.

Wutai felt like stepping into another realm: Serene, sacred, and alive with centuries of devotion. Every temple visit carried its own energy, and there was so much space for quiet reflection amidst the mist, chanting monks, and breathtaking mountain views. I especially appreciated how flexible and accommodating the agency was, tailoring the itinerary perfectly to our pace and interests, and ensuring we had time to truly experience, not just “see.”

Highly recommend China Good Tour for anyone seeking an authentic, seamless, and heart-opening journey through China’s sacred sites. They made it effortless to just be present and soak in the beauty and spirit of Wutai Mountain.

In the afternoon, step into the spiritual rhythm of Wutai:

  • Wanfoge Temple – Known for career and wealth blessings, this is the most powerful “wishing temple” in Wutai.
  • Xiantong Temple – The oldest and grandest monastery in the area, home to a rare brick-built Golden Hall.
  • Bodhisattva Summit – Once an imperial temple, it houses ornate palaces and 108 ceremonial steps to enlightenment.

Dinner features a spread of Wutai favorites such as oat noodles, shumai, sweet eggplant, and butter ribs — a rich introduction to the mountain’s rustic flavors.

Day 2: Mountain Hike & Wellness Rituals

A day to awaken the body and heal the spirit — in the footsteps of ancient pilgrims.

Begin with an early morning departure to the Dongtai Wanghai Temple, perched high above the clouds. After a 2-hour gentle hike (round trip), you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of sunrise and misty mountain peaks — a sacred experience for body, mind, and camera.

After a revitalizing bowl of lamb soup and hand-pulled noodles, we turn inward:

  • Traditional Moxibustion Therapy – Learn about the ancient Chinese practice of energy healing using herbs and acupoints.
  • Incense-Making & Tea Ritual – Craft your own temple incense and enjoy a meditative Song Dynasty-style tea tasting, surrounded by peaceful gardens and curated artifacts.

Dinner takes a playful turn at a local Buddhist-inspired fast food restaurant, offering vegetarian burgers with flavors like plant-based beef, chicken, and fish — a surprising and delicious end to a day of mindful exploration.

Day 3: Mindful Practice & Monastic Dialogue

Slow down. Listen. Let wisdom arrive.

After a nourishing breakfast, the day begins with a Song Dynasty-style tea ritual — a multisensory healing experience designed to calm the nervous system and ground your energy.

Stroll through the elegant Fanjingli Cultural Town, where art, tea, and architecture blend into a serene village space designed by China’s top design schools.

After lunch, the journey continues into the heart of Tibetan Buddhist aesthetics:

  • Guanghua Temple – Adorned in vibrant red, yellow, and blue, this is Wutai’s most colorful and photogenic Tibetan temple.
  • Luohou Temple – Famous for its ancient “mechanical flower-opening Buddha,” and deep historical ties to the Buddha’s own family line.
Mount Wutai

As twilight falls, you’ll be welcomed into the private dining hall of a living temple. Enjoy a monastic vegetarian meal and engage in a rare personal conversation with a senior Buddhist master — an exclusive opportunity by China Good Tour to explore topics like karma, clarity, and life’s deeper questions.

The evening ends with a full cultural immersion: the “Impression Wutai Mountain” performance, directed by Wang Chaoge, known for co-directing the 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony. It’s an emotional, visually stunning story that brings the soul of Wutai to life.

Day 4: Temple Forest & Evening Temple Chanting

Between ancient stones and whispering pines, find the space to breathe.

This day begins with a peaceful coffee moment at Wutai’s West Gate overlook, where you’ll sip a warm drink while gazing out across mist-covered valleys and temple roofs.

Next, you’ll visit:

  • Zhulin Temple – A Tang Dynasty Pure Land temple cradled by forested hills, where you’ll enjoy a traditional monastic lunch in silence.
  • Leisure forest hike or picnic – Breathe in mountain air, walk mindfully, and reconnect with nature’s rhythm.

Finally, you’ll be welcomed into the sacred halls of Pusou Temple, Asia’s largest female monastic college, to participate in their evening chanting and meditation session. It is a humbling, deeply moving moment of stillness shared with those who dedicate their lives to spiritual practice.

Note: Depending on the availability of the temples, we will arrange for visitors to meditate at the temples such as Luoshu Temple, Pushou Temple, Guanghua Temple, Bixia Temple and so on.

Day 5: Farewell & Cultural Legacy

Bring home more than memories — bring insight, energy, and stillness.

Before departing, you’ll experience a rare cultural ritual — a hands-on woodblock printing workshop using ancient techniques passed down for over 2,000 years. As you press ink into hand-carved blocks, you’ll also imprint your own experience of Wutai into a lasting keepsake.
