HOW THIS DAY FEELS

Wonder · Freedom

Feel wonder as you walk along Tianmen Mountain’s cliffside paths and look through the vast opening of Tianmen Cave. The glass skywalk is there for those who want the extra thrill, but the mountain remains impressive from every route.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Hotel Pickup

Your guide will meet you at your hotel in downtown Zhangjiajie before travelling to Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park. The drive takes approximately 20 minutes, depending on your hotel location and local traffic.

This tour is designed as a focused half-day route. Rather than including every Tianmen Mountain attraction, it concentrates on the summit, Tianmen Temple, the Glass Skywalk and Tianmen Cave.

Day 2: Tianmen Mountain Summit, Tianmen Temple and Glass Skywalk

Enter Tianmen Mountain Scenic Area and continue by sightseeing bus toward the summit section. Walk with your guide along the mountain’s cliffside pathways, where forested slopes fall away into the valleys below.

Visit Tianmen Temple, set within the upper mountain landscape. Your guide will introduce the temple’s place within the mountain’s cultural setting before continuing toward the viewing areas.

If you are comfortable with heights, walk the Glass Skywalk, built along the mountainside above the valley. The experience is optional. Guests who prefer not to step onto the glass can follow an alternative path or use nearby viewing platforms instead.

Note: The Glass Skywalk fee is included in the package price, but it cannot be refunded if you choose not to use it.

Day 3: Tianmen Cave and Included Mountain Escalator

Continue to Tianmen Cave, also known as Heaven’s Gate. The opening is a natural rock arch cut through the mountain, standing approximately 131 metres high.

Use the included mountain escalator to travel between Tianmen Cave and the summit area. This reduces the need to take the full 999-step stairway, although some walking and stair sections remain part of the route.

After leaving the scenic area, stop near the base of Tianmen Mountain for lunch. Your guide can recommend suitable local restaurants and explain common Hunan dishes, including options for guests who prefer milder flavours.

Note: Lunch is not included in the tour price. Guests are free to choose their own dishes and pay the restaurant directly.

Day 5: Return to Downtown Zhangjiajie

After lunch, return to your hotel in downtown Zhangjiajie by taxi or private vehicle, depending on your group size. The rest of the day is free for you to rest, explore the city independently or continue with another Zhangjiajie experience.
